Carbon Fibre in Musical Instruments
2015-04-08 09:15:25
For many years there has been interest in applying carbon fibre in music.  Experimental pianos, loud speakers, stringed instruments and harpsichords have been built using carbon fibre action parts and with carbon fibre replacing wooden parts including sound boards.  Generally these have had only mixed success. Research into combining wood, plastic foams and other materials with carbon fibre has shown greater promise.

Carbon fibre is not the only material considered for sound boards in pianos.  Glass, metal and other composites have been tested.
